OUR VOLUNTEERS

Seamus Daly

Coach

Hi I’m Seamus, I coach the morning classes, that are targeted to the public, who come together for various reasons, mainly health and well-being. I have been involved since the inception of Hawkes Bay Youth Trust in 2015, after moving to Hawkes Bay and after some volunteer coaching at Otahuhu Boxing, I answered an advert for coaches, and I have never left! Nearly 10 years and counting.

In my day job, I am a land surveyor, and have previously coached Martial Arts and am an avid hunter when I get the chance to go bush.

I not only coach but enjoy learning and have learnt so much during my time, including physical and mental limits of myself, people management, but most of all I have witnessed how amazing people are and how small influences can make a massive difference to people’s lives.

Dave Odumesi

Coach

Hi I’m Dave, I am a boxing coach with Giants and assist with pastoral care and mentoring in the region. I have been involved since 2016, to mentor and encourage youth to succeed in boxing and life.

In my day job, I work for Jetts Gym as a manager and I am passionate about the Christian faith, my family, sports chaplaincy and following Crystal Palace F.C.

The biggest lesson I have learnt as a mentor is, patience, as people progress over different time frames. In the future I aspire to help a growing number of athletes improve in their health, fitness, sport and understanding of God, who cares about their whole life.

Clint Vaiusu

Assistant Coach

Hi I’m Clint, I am one of the assistant coaches at Giants boxing gym and I have been involved with the Giants since the beginning, first boxed at the Flaxmere boxing academy with Craig in Storford Lodge, I got involved with Giants as I had used boxing for training previously and was looking for a good way to stay fit.

My life outside Giants, I am a small business owner with waste management & property care business, where we are specialists in landscaping and waste management, and I love spending time with my family, I have 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl.

I enjoy most sports, I play rugby, do cross fit and was a competitive boxer a few years ago.

Over the years I have learnt so many big lessons boxing and coaching within Giants, we have a great way of teaching valuable life lessons in so many areas, one I would highlight is the benefits of physical activity no only to myself, but to the students and how this helps them develop.

I am still have a few years left to get back in the ring, and mostly transitioning in to a coaching and supportive role in the gym. Keen to develop more coaching skills and develop in this area. I will be working towards becoming more of a support person, mentoring men & boys, as a male role model and someone to reach out to and talk should they need.

There are far too many great lessons over the years I have learnt to name the biggest lesson, boxing and Giants have a great way of teaching valuable life lessons in so many areas. To highlight a couple maybe courage, friendship, resilience, humility.
